Actually I have made it my broswer landing page!
This stuff is amazing. Check it out:
I have found the following blog online - http://www.maxkiesler.com/index.php. From what I can tell the site is using the ajax framework via php. Interesting. Either way the blog has lots of useful info.
I don’t quite know what it is but blogging software just isn’t quite there yet. Sure you can add links, posts, pictures etc but something is still missing. Pings, AJAX, trackbacks, mashups etcetera are all cool but not quite hip to the groove.
Apple looks like it is making some progress. But even with the new version of .mac I still think the pepper is missing from the salt. It is just not pervasive.
I just can’t quite put my finger on it.
Dear Brendan Nelson the Australian Minister for (the commercialisation of) Education, you must be doing something wrong when even the Catholic church disagrees with your neo-conservative views on Christianity.
It appears that even the Vatican believes that Intelligent Design should not be taught in the class room. Actually they even go further stating that it believed evolution to be the key interpretive representation of the history of life on earth. For more information follow this link.
For anyone looking to learn the ruby language check out http://tryruby.hobix.com these guys have effectively implemented a web based shell and tutorial for learning Ruby. One you know the basics of ruby you can unleash the power of rails! (see http://www.rubyonrails.org/ for more information on rails).
Some crazy dude has created a language reference for ruby: http://www.whytheluckystiff.net/ruby/pickaxe/html/builtins.html don’t check out the rest of his page though… kinda crazy.
A rapid development frame work for PHP5? Well the folks at claw are tying there darndest to create a php equivelant of ruby. http://claw.tigris.org I can’t hep thinking that it is a little to late though. Especially when you consider the slow takeup of PHP5.
script.aculo.us is a fantastic resource for anyone looking to learn the AJAX programming methodology. Fantastic! The site offers examples and some downloads.
As expected apple released its new Intel Macs. The only issue….. the cost has not decreased. In fact there is no cost effective laptop offering. If it wasn’t for the software the offering would not be competitive at all.
The most interesting products on display were software related. The ‘photocasting’ in iphoto looks quite interesting. It would be better if itunes had the ability to access photocasts. Also the new .mac offering and the complementary functionality that is in the ilife suite (including iweb) will be of interest to web2.0 bloggers, podcasters and flickr evangelists.
Is it worth $99USD per year. Well I am not sure about that. While the suite is functionally very rich the limited storage space that goes with the base package will be to limiting for those who are serious about creating an online presence.
So all in all I think the Intel imac represents good value. If a second monitor can be added (which appears to be the case) then the imac has become a true web/graphics/video work horse.
I have added some photos from a trip that I recently made to Bendigo, Ballarat and the Great Ocean Road in Victoria/Australia.
